OFFHOOK SR-01
IN DEVELOPMENT

The landline for your smartphone.

A handset that takes your calls privately, becomes a speaker when you set it down, and charges your phone while it sits there.

INTRODUCING
Offhook

off-hook adj.

The state of a telephone line when the handset has been lifted and the call is live. For most of the twentieth century it was the difference between being reachable and being left alone — a state you could see from across the room.

WHAT IT IS

A telephone handset that isn't attached to a telephone.

It pairs with the phone already in your pocket. Every call you'd take on speaker, or with an earbud, or by holding a slab of glass against your face — you take on this instead.

01
Earpiece

At the listening end. Private by default — the call stays between you and the caller.

02
Mode slider

Call, table, off. A physical switch, not a setting. You can see the state across the room.

03
Call key & wheel

Answer, end, mute. Volume by thumb, without looking, mid-call.

04
USB-C

Power out to your phone. The receiver sits on the desk doing two jobs at once.

THREE MODES

Pick it up. Set it down. Plug it in.

MODE 01 — PICK IT UP

A private call, held

Earpiece at your ear, microphone at your mouth. A focused call posture — no slab against your face, nothing in your ears, no charging another device before you can take a call.

MODE 02 — SET IT DOWN

Table sound

It rests on its side, drivers facing the room. Designed for tabletop speakerphone and near-field listening where you're already working.

MODE 03 — PLUG IN

Power for your phone

An internal battery with USB-C power out, targeted up to 30 W for compatible devices.* The object on your desk is also the thing that keeps your phone alive through the afternoon. A braided cable is included — and in the studio series, it is matched to the finish.

CONTROLS

Lift it, and the call begins.

The gesture everyone born before 2000 already knows. When the receiver is in call mode and the phone rings, raising it to your ear answers — no key, no glance, no hunting for a button. The call starts in the same motion as bringing it to your face.

LIFT TO ANSWER
Armed only in call mode

The slider stays the single authority over where audio goes. In table or off, a lift does nothing — the object can't answer from inside a bag.

ONE KEY
Answer · end · hold to decline

A single machined key rather than a green and red pair. Fewer things on the surface, one thing to learn.

KNURLED WHEEL
Volume by thumb · press to mute

Machined aluminium, bead-blasted, detented like a good scroll wheel. Sunk into the plate so your thumb finds it without looking, mid-call.

BUILD

One plate, three controls, no screen

Everything sits in a single satin gunmetal panel inset into the body. The mode slider is mechanical and persistent — you can read the object's state from across a desk. A pinprick indicator and two quiet tones tell you when a call connects and when it ends.

ANSA STUDIO

One object. Many expressions.

The standard model ships first, in one restrained finish. Beyond it we're exploring a studio series — the same instrument, the same geometry, treated as an object worth looking at.

Studio finishes are explorations, not committed products. They are shown to indicate direction. Availability, finishes and pricing are undetermined, and the standard model is the only one planned for the founding batch.
